Why is tempered glass said to have good thermal stability

Information summary:The good thermal stability of tempered glass is mainly due to its special manufacturing process, which endows it with an internal stress structure and the resulting ability to resist temperature changes. This can be reflected in the following aspects:
        The good thermal stability of tempered glass is mainly due to its special manufacturing process, which endows it with an internal stress structure and the resulting ability to resist temperature changes. This can be reflected in the following aspects:
1、 Physical structure: Uniform internal stress distribution enhances resistance to temperature differences
        Tempered glass is made by high-temperature quenching (rapid cooling) treatment of ordinary glass: after heating the glass to near the softening point (about 600-700 ℃), it is quickly and uniformly cooled with cold air. This process generates compressive stress on the surface of the glass due to rapid shrinkage, while retaining tensile stress internally due to slow cooling, forming a balanced stress state of "surface compression and internal tension".
        When encountering sudden temperature changes, this stress structure can offset some of the stress caused by thermal expansion and contraction:
        For example, when a high-temperature object comes into contact with a glass surface, the surface expands due to heat and is partially offset by the original compressive stress, reducing the risk of cracking;
        On the contrary, in low-temperature environments, the trend of surface shrinkage will also be alleviated by compressive stress.
2、 The temperature resistance range is significantly better than that of ordinary glass
The thermal stability of ordinary glass is poor, usually able to withstand a temperature difference of only 50-100 ℃ (such as cold glass easily exploding when exposed to hot water); The temperature resistance of tempered glass can reach over 200-300 ℃ (with slight differences in different processes).
       This feature enables it to adapt to more complex temperature environments, such as:
       The countertop glass in the kitchen that comes into contact with hot water and steam;
       Car front windshield (needs to withstand the temperature difference between outdoor high temperature and indoor air conditioning low temperature);
       High temperature industrial observation window (the difference between the high temperature inside the contact equipment and the normal temperature outside).
3、 The safety indirectly reflects the stability advantage after crushing
       Although the thermal stability of tempered glass is not directly equivalent to its resistance to breakage, when it breaks due to extreme temperature differences, it will shatter into small particles without sharp edges ("self explosion" or broken state), which is safer than sharp fragments of ordinary glass. This feature also makes it more suitable for high-temperature scenarios that require safety, such as building curtain walls and home appliance panels.
