Why is it necessary to install insulated glass in a sunroom

Source:www.cnxingfu.net      Release date: 2025-12-15
Information summary:The installation of insulated glass in a sunroom aims to balance the demand for natural lighting with a comfortable experience, while addressing pain points such as poor insulation, easy condensation, and weak sound insulation of ordinary single-layer glass. It is suitable for the use of sunrooms that are "transparent but not stuffy, transparent and quiet". The specific reasons are as follows:
The installation of insulated glass in a sunroom aims to balance the demand for natural lighting with a comfortable experience, while addressing pain points such as poor insulation, easy condensation, and weak sound insulation of ordinary single-layer glass. It is suitable for the use of sunrooms that are "transparent but not stuffy, transparent and quiet". The specific reasons are as follows:
1. Excellent thermal insulation performance, reducing energy consumption
The core structure of insulating glass consists of two layers of glass and a sealed dry air layer/inert gas layer in the middle. Air or argon has a low thermal conductivity and can form an efficient insulation barrier.
        In summer, it can block the transfer of outdoor heat to indoor areas, prevent sunrooms from becoming "sauna rooms" due to exposure to sunlight, and reduce the cooling load of air conditioning;
In winter, it can lock in indoor heat, reduce the rate of heat loss, improve the insulation effect of sunrooms, and reduce heating energy consumption.
Compared to single-layer glass, the insulation efficiency of insulated glass is increased by about 3-5 times, especially suitable for sunrooms exposed to sunlight for a long time.
2. Effectively block ultraviolet rays and protect indoor items
One layer of the insulating glass can be made of Low-E coated glass, or paired with glass sheets that can absorb ultraviolet radiation, which can filter out more than 90% of harmful ultraviolet rays.
This can not only prevent human skin from being sunburned by ultraviolet rays, but also prevent furniture, flooring, fabric and soft furnishings in the sunroom from fading and aging due to ultraviolet radiation, extending their service life.
3. Good sound insulation and noise reduction effect, improving comfort
Sunrooms are often located on terraces and courtyards, and are susceptible to outdoor noise such as traffic, wind and rain, and crowds. The double-layer structure of insulated glass and sealed air layer can weaken noise propagation through "sound wave refraction and consumption", reducing noise by about 20-35 decibels.
Even if the outdoor environment is noisy, the indoor environment can remain relatively quiet, meeting the needs of leisure, reading, office and other quiet environments.
4. Strong anti condensation performance, keeping the glass transparent and clean
When there is a large temperature difference between indoor and outdoor in winter, the inner side of single-layer glass is prone to condensation, and water droplets may adhere, blocking light and potentially dirtying the ground.
The insulation layer of insulated glass can reduce the temperature drop inside the glass, making the surface temperature of the glass closer to the indoor temperature, thereby significantly reducing condensation. At the same time, the sealed structure can prevent fog from appearing inside the glass and always maintain a transparent view of the sunroom.
5. Balancing safety and structural stability
The insulated glass used in sunrooms is often paired with tempered glass sheets. After the tempered glass is broken, it forms a granular shape without sharp angles, which will not splash and injure people; Double layered tempered insulating glass has stronger impact resistance and can withstand external impacts such as strong winds and hail, reducing the risk of glass damage.
In addition, insulated glass has high flatness and better wind pressure resistance than single-layer glass, making it suitable as a top and facade material for sunrooms, ensuring overall structural stability.
