Why is the safety of tempered glass so high

The high safety of tempered glass is due to its unique production process that optimizes its physical properties, as well as its special state after breakage. This can be analyzed in detail from the following aspects:
1、 High strength: far superior to ordinary glass in terms of impact resistance and bending resistance
The strength of tempered glass is 3-5 times that of ordinary glass, which fundamentally reduces the possibility of breakage:
The production process determines strength: Tempered glass is made by subjecting ordinary glass to "high-temperature quenching" treatment - heating the glass to near the softening point (about 600-650 ℃), and then uniformly cooling it with high-speed cold air. This process creates compressive stress on the surface of the glass and tensile stress inside, balancing the two stresses and making the overall structure of the glass more stable.
Impact resistance performance: Under the same thickness, tempered glass can withstand greater external impacts (such as impact, wind pressure, temperature changes, etc.). For example, ordinary glass may be easily shattered by rocks, while tempered glass is more difficult to break under the same conditions, especially suitable for scenarios such as doors, windows, and car windshields that require resistance to external impacts.
2、 Broken state: reduces the risk of injury
Even if tempered glass breaks due to extreme external forces, its breaking method improves safety:
Particle breakage without sharp edges: Ordinary glass will form large sharp fragments after breakage, which can easily cause cuts; When tempered glass breaks, it will split into countless small, blunt angle particles without sharp angles due to internal stress release (particle size usually meets relevant standards, such as no less than 40 particles per square centimeter for automotive tempered glass). These small particles are lightweight and have rounded edges, greatly reducing the risk of scratching or piercing the human body.
Spider web like cracks delay detachment: Some tempered glass does not immediately scatter during the initial stage of force rupture, but maintains its overall shape as a "spider web" like crack (especially laminated tempered glass), which can buy time for personnel evacuation or handling and reduce secondary injuries caused by debris falling.
3、 Excellent heat resistance: reduces the risk of breakage caused by temperature fluctuations
Ordinary glass is sensitive to temperature changes. If it suddenly encounters hot or cold locally (such as pouring boiling water into a glass in winter or sudden rain when outdoor glass is exposed to direct sunlight), it is easy to explode due to uneven thermal expansion and contraction. The heat shock resistance of tempered glass is more than three times that of ordinary glass, and it can withstand temperature differences of 200-300 ℃ (specific values may vary slightly due to thickness and process). It is less likely to break in daily use or high temperature environments (such as kitchen stove glass and bathroom glass).
4、 Additional features enhance security
Anti wind pressure and anti vibration: Due to its high strength, tempered glass can adapt to the strong wind pressure, earthquake and other vibration environments of high-rise buildings, reducing breakage caused by structural deformation.
Can be combined with other technologies: through composite processing (such as combining with PVB film to make tempered laminated glass), safety can be further improved - even if the glass breaks, the fragments will be stuck by the film to avoid scattering.
