Why is tempered glass favored by many people

Information summary:The reason why tempered glass has gained widespread popularity lies in its ability to solve the pain points of "fragility, low safety, and single performance" of ordinary glass.        The reason why tempered glass has gained widespread popularity lies in its ability to solve the pain points of "fragility, low safety, and single performance" of ordinary glass. At the same time, it can meet the diverse needs of various scenarios in terms of aesthetics and adaptability. The reasons for its popularity can be explored from three dimensions: safety advantages, performance advantages, and scenario adaptability
1、 Core attraction: Excellent safety, addressing the core concern of "fragile glass"
After ordinary glass is broken, it will form sharp knife like fragments, which are prone to safety hazards such as cuts and scratches. However, tempered glass undergoes "physical tempering treatment" (rapid cooling after high-temperature heating), fundamentally changing the broken shape of the glass and becoming its core competitive advantage:
No safety risk after breakage: When tempered glass is broken, it will split into countless small particles without sharp edges (commonly known as "obtuse angle particles"), with particle sizes usually between 5-10mm. It is lightweight and has rounded edges, and even if it falls off, it will not cause deep cuts like ordinary glass, greatly reducing the safety hazards of accidental breakage (especially suitable for households with elderly and children, or crowded public places).
      The impact resistance of tempered glass far exceeds that of ordinary glass: after tempering treatment, a "compressive stress layer" is formed on the surface of the glass, and a "tensile stress layer" is formed inside. The impact resistance strength can reach 3-5 times that of ordinary glass - for example, when impacted by a hard object of the same force, ordinary glass may directly shatter, while tempered glass may only have local indentations and is not easily broken as a whole (such as household tempered glass countertops, which are not easily damaged even if tableware is accidentally dropped).
Resistant to sudden changes in high temperature and avoiding "hot and cold explosions": Ordinary glass is prone to explode due to uneven thermal expansion and contraction when the temperature difference exceeds 50 ℃ (such as pouring hot water on cold glass in winter), while tempered glass can increase its resistance to sudden changes in high temperature to 200-300 ℃ (slightly different specifications). When exposed to hot water and high-temperature appliances (such as oven doors and stove covers) in daily use, it is less likely to explode and is suitable for more high-temperature scenarios.
2、 Key advantage: Excellent comprehensive performance, balancing "durability+practicality"
      In addition to safety, the physical properties of tempered glass also far exceed ordinary glass, which can cope with various losses and needs in daily use and reduce maintenance costs:
      High hardness and strong scratch resistance: The surface hardness of tempered glass can reach the Mohs hardness level 6-7 (ordinary glass is about 5.5), second only to diamond and quartz. When in daily use, it is not easy to produce scratches when in contact with hard objects such as keys and metal tableware (such as tempered glass coffee tables and bathroom glass doors, which can still maintain a smooth surface after long-term use).
      High strength, not easy to deform: under the same thickness, the bending strength of tempered glass is 3-4 times that of ordinary glass. Even as a large area glass (such as french window and glass partition), it can withstand its own weight and slight external forces (such as wind blowing and slight collision), and is not easy to bend and deform. There is no need to add too many additional support structures to maintain the sense of space permeability.
      Customizable processing to meet diverse needs: Tempered glass can achieve more functions through subsequent processing, such as:
Produce frosted tempered glass (for bathroom and office partitions, balancing privacy and lighting);
      Production of laminated tempered glass (with PVB film sandwiched between two layers of glass, fragments will not fall off after breakage, suitable for balcony guardrails and sunrooms);
      The production of coated tempered glass (coated with thermal insulation film and anti blue light film, used for window and mobile phone screen protection, while also considering energy-saving or eye protection functions) has further expanded its usage scenarios.
3、 Scene adaptability: covering "home+commercial+industrial", fully practical
      The performance advantages of tempered glass enable it to adapt to various scenarios from daily home to professional industry, meeting the needs of different groups of people:
      Home scene: it is a "frequent visitor" of family decoration, such as tempered glass tea table, dining table (scratch resistant, easy to clean, oil stain can be cleaned immediately), bathroom glass door/shower partition (waterproof, high temperature resistant, safe after breaking), balcony french window (good wind pressure resistance, light transmittance, not blocking the vision), kitchen stove baffle (oil stain resistant, high temperature resistant, wall protection) - almost covering all scenes in the family that "need glass and have requirements for safety and durability".
      Commercial scenarios: Widely used in public places such as shopping malls, office buildings, and restaurants, such as glass display cabinets in shopping malls (shock resistant, protecting exhibits while facilitating viewing), glass partitions in office buildings (good transparency, dividing space without suppressing), glass dining tables in restaurants (easy to clean, meeting hygiene requirements), and elevator car glass (wear-resistant, not easy to flower after long-term use), which can not only enhance the texture of the space, but also cope with the intensity of high-frequency and high flow of people.
      Industrial/Special Scenarios: With high strength and safety, it can also be used in professional fields such as automotive glass (front windshield is mostly laminated tempered glass, side windows are ordinary tempered glass, which does not affect driving safety when broken), electronic device screen protection (such as tempered film substrates for some mobile phones and tablets), laboratory glassware (high temperature resistance, impact resistance, suitable for experimental operations), etc., becoming a "functional material" in industrial production.
